UN watchdog calls for Guantánamo closure
The United Nations Committee on Torture has called for the closure of the US prison camp at Guantánamo Bay, as well as secret US prisons elsewhere in the world. Incredibly, the US still claims its torture facilities comply with international law:
The committee said the US should halt interrogation techniques constituting torture or cruel treatment, citing methods including sexual humiliation, mock drownings and the use of dogs to induce fear.
