The land that time forgot

Albania flag"There is also a divide between north and south Albania. The north is called Gheg, the south Tosk. Gheg is tough, uncouth, aggressive; the south, educated, civilised, Italianate. It’s a bit like England."—AA Gill

Guys, don't take him seriosly, he was only frustrated he didn't find any prostitutes in Albania to release his saddness.

I am still puzzled why would Times Magazine allow such an idiot to write for them.

What a liability!

The Albanian flag is the same that Konstantin the emperor of Bizant use because "dear so called writer AA GILL" he was born in Nish, albanian land before the british made a mess in Balkan, and his flag was reused by our albanian national hero to show still some christanism. It used to show for Konstantin the Great that his empire and the roman empire was one, so just a kingdom with with 2 branches. By the way you ignorant writer the eagle is symbol of power and it used to be the sign of sun god in pagan times.
I hope you so called writer remain jobless because is people idiot like you that start the conflicts

How much did Serbs pay you Gill? Next time you visit Albania you will be treated just as Gordon Ramsey treated you, simply you are not welcome.

My God! I cannot believe they publish something like that! I’m still in shock!
I never heard about this nameless person, but of course he must be very well paid to write it!

I have to say I was enraged by this article. This AA Gill has twisted all the facts to fit his image of what Albania is. He needs to look at Britain and all of its awful leaders and its upside down parliament who for being a world power is absolutely hidden. It hides behind the U.S. because it cannot make decisions of its own.

I hope people do not form an opinion of Albania by this article because it is nothing like that and me being a citizen of Tirana, who lives in the U.S. can tell you that Albania is nothing but beutiful and great people and whom have never turned their backs on anyone and are nothing but friendly.

In my opinion Mr. AA Gill is just upset that us Albanians are smarter and wiser that he is and we would not lower ourselves to his level, which is nothing but a low-life.
If anyone has his e-mail address could you post it because I would like to know where his negativity comes from.
Thanks for reading

I wrote a letter of complaint to the editor about this article. It and his response is the top posting on my blog http://bopblog.blogspot.com. As my letter states, I also made a complaint to the press complaints commission about A.A Gill's piece.

I find the article very insulting for us Albanians. Our language is spoken only by Albanians, which makes it unique. We use it to express our feelings, we sing with it, we love with it and we never ever use it for racism as Mr. Gill uses his language.
True, you can find stolen cars in Albania, as you might find them in UK too, or everywhere around the world, we just happen to have a better taste, choosing the best on market, right?:-).
And although I don’t personally approve the way many teenagers dress, Mr. Gill has to admit that we Albanian girls have what to show!
I still don’t believe how a journalist, would use only his eyes to see something and not a bit of his brain. Other countries are different from you little perfect world Mr. Gill, people are different from you, and thanks to God will always be. And that’s what makes the life beautiful. Be prepared to see a place different from yours when you leave your country. And you can learn a lot from Albanian who live all around the world, not only respecting other countries’ culture but also loving it!

Mr. Gill, you are outside your mind. First of all, if Albanians are as good at crime as you say, you wouldn't be publishing hatred about their culture.

You start your article with a blatant lie by calling Mother Teresa a "woman who devoted herself to helping people die;". That's why she's proclaimed a SAINT, something you'll never be. Maybe your overpaid journalist ass, can take a trip to Vatican and verify that, don't get shot in the meantime though.

Albanians are upset because the guy was honest.

They would much prefer that he proclaimed Albanians "nice" or "proud" or something else completely void of any objectivity.

Ironically, threats of violence, swearing and rage towards the author of the article just shows that he just might be totally right about them.

A friend sent me this article and I thought it was a scam. Actually seeing it on the newspaper's homepage was a total shock to me. I've never ever read a more racist, xenophobic piece. Not to mention that the writing is really bad: Gill contradicts himself like two or three times. His attempts at irony are also poor. Overall, how on Earth could have the Sunday Times publish this???
