West transfixed by terror

'Mahathir Mohamad, the former Malaysian prime minister, is right when he alleges the West became “deranged” by September 11. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in a barbaric act of terror. But since 9/11 it is estimated that 200,000 soldiers and civilians have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, two desperately hopeless wars somehow justified by those images of firefighters gasping for breath, coated in dust; skyscrapers reduced to nothing; widows sobbing.' —Rod Liddle
